WHO DO YOU KNOW IN THE WEDDING INDUSTRY? Do you know Vera Wang? I know, that some of you will say: Oh yes, I know her, --she makes wedding gowns. Well, you know what? You are right. However, there is so much more here that I would like to share with you about this wedding gown designer, a lot of which I did not know until I did research on her. First of all, many people around the world have recently heard and observed, that she was the wedding gown, reception gown, and after-party designer of the 3 gorgeous wedding gowns of Kim Kardashian. You will be able to view the dance gown on the home page here at www.shopbestweddingsite.com, and the gown you see here is the gown that Kim Kardashian walked down the aisle wearing. Let me continue sharing with you about who Vera Wang is. Her heritage is that of Chinese. She is a Designer of wedding gowns, and of Fashion. She has a fashion salon in New York and that is where she does a lot of her work. She was born and raised in New York. She use to be a very talented figure skater and in 1986, was in the USA Figure Skating Championships. I had no idea that she did this. I myself really enjoy watching figure skating on TV and as a matter of fact, when I was young, that is one of the occupations that I considered looking into. I don't ever remember seeing Vera Wang on any of the skating shows, but of course, back then, I too was young and probably did not watch too many skating shows. She earned her degree in Art History, from the Sarah Lawrence College. As a married woman, she lived with her husband-Arthur Becker and two daughters in Manhattan. Vera Wang was featured in Sports Illustrated. For 16 years, she was the Senior Fashion Editor at Vogue, which is a very popular fashion magazine, even today. When she was turned down for a higher position at Vogue, she then left that industry and turned to fashion. She then became Ralph Lauren's Design Director. Ralph Lauren is also a very popular Fashion Designer. Vera Wang, after working for Ralph Lauren for a time, eventually started her own fashion line. Vera Wang, upon going into her own fashion business, became massively successful. She designed costumes for Nancy Kerrigan, Michelle Kwan, and Evan Lysacek, who are three well known skaters. Some of her accomplishments, and her main accomplishments have been those dealing with wedding dresses, accessories, and off-the-rack fashions. She has been an actress. If any of you keep up with the celebrity news, you will find that Vera Wang has become well known in designing wedding gowns for many well known celebrities. Those celebrities are:
So as you can see, the celebrities are certainly turning to Vera Wang for their wedding day. Have any of you,-- reading this,-- ever thought about having Vera Wang design and make your wedding dress? That would be a memorable thing, wouldn't it? She definitely is talented and "in the know" as far as what is popular and up-to-date and as to what the good materials are for wedding gowns. Vera Wang has worked or been connected to shows and networks where she has had the opportunity to be represented as the successful fashion designer that she is. Those shows are: "Sex and the City" Bride Wars Anne Hathaway A reference to her gowns by NBC TV The West Wing - The Black Vera Wang Vera Wang has other successful ventures and accomplishments of which are involving: Fragrance Jewelry Eye Wear Shoe Collections and..... Housewares Vera Wang China & Crystal Collection released in 2002 Diffusion line called Simply Vera, released in 2007 Vera Wang has written the book: Vera Wang On Weddings-released 10/23/2001 Vera Wang has won several awards of which are: 1) Council of Fashion Designers of America 2) Womens Wear Designer of the Year in 2005 3) Lifetime Achievement Award from Savannah College of Art & Design - 2006 4) She was inducted into the Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 2009 and was honored as a sports designer 5) She was awarded the Leadership in Arts Award by the Harvard-Ratcliff Asian American Association. She was able to accept this award at the Harvard Association Annual Charity Fashion Show on April 17,2010 Vera Wang's further Television appearances have been as follows: 1) Judge on "Project Runway" in 2006 2) Ugly Betty as herself in "A Nice Day for a Pooh Wedding" in 2007 3) The "Apprentice" as herself in 2008 4) "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" in "The Wedding," in 2009 5) "Chelsea Lately" as herself in earlier 2011. Wow, what accomplishments, wouldn't you agree? I'm impressed. Vera Wang just exemplifies what a person can do when a person sets goals, focuses on those goals with envisioning the end results, and when a personworks hard, -uses their talents-- and goes forward to succeed rather than to hold themselves back and rather than allowing negativity to enter into their daily lives. For we all know that negativity causes a person to be stifled and it cripples so as to block out the ability to achieve and to succeed. I would just like to take this moment to encourage all of you to choose good thoughts. Choose a good attitude. Believe in yourself. And...to become the "You" that you can be and that you are and were meant to be. Bless you all in your future endeavors. Best Wishes to all brides and grooms as you prepare for your very special up-coming wedding day. And......... For example: 1) Do any of you know the specific meaning of the word "Wed," Well, it means "pledge." To pledge yourself one to the other, its a solemn pledge. It is to be a true pledge of faithful pledge and a loving pledge towards each other. This pledge brings joy, as this pledge flows from one heart to another heart. This joy and the pledge are to be everlasting. 2) What about the meaning and/or symbol of the kiss after pledging vows to each other? What do you think is the meaning of the kiss? It symbolizes the uniting of two souls by showing that unity through the physical kiss. 3) You know, so often we hear, even in the news, about how this person and that person found their "soul-mate." What does the word "soul-mate" mean to you? I have often wondered about those two words. Have you wondered about those two words? Do you think it is really important in a relationship and marriage to be connected to your "soul-mate?" I just wonder if society throws those two words around too much. Basically, "soul-mate" means to be in-tune with each other. In-tune with each others' wants and each others' needs. An example of expression of two people who are "soul-mates," might be that quiet glance that they give each other, either when they are standing or sitting directly next to each other, or when they are across the room from each other. As the reader here, if you wish to give us your idea of what a "soul-mate" is and/or how it has worked in your relationship, please feel free to contact us, please write to shopbestweddingsite@yahoo.com. We would love to hear from you. _____________________________________
WHAT DOES IT MEAN-"TO LOVE?" "Love," Hm? That word has really left an impression on me, especially these past 20 years, in my life. The word "Love" has been thrown around, so I wonder, if it has lost its true important meaning. "To Be In Love," or..."To love," has a deeper meaning. What about to you? Have you heard the song, "Love Makes the World Go Around?" or...have you heard the song "Love In Any Language, Straight From The Heart?" I believe that the true meaning of love, not only in our spiritual lives, but just in every day living and in life in general is found in I Corinthians 13 in the Bible. The Reading goes like this: "Though I speak with the tongues of man and of angels, and have not Love,I am become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not Love, - I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not Love, it profiteth me nothing. Love is not selfish and Love suffereth long. Love is kind. Love does not envy one toward the other, Love is not puffed up, Love does not behave itself unseemingly, Love does not seek its own way. Love is not easily provoked. Love thinks no evil, one towards the other. Love beareth all things. Love believes all things. Love hopes all things Love endures all things. LOVE NEVER FAILS. And now abideth, Faith, Hope, and Love,---but the greatest of these is "LOVE." King James Version, along with this authors wording You might be thinking, - Yeah....right. Yes, I know to love is hard, especially in hard times, negative times, when cross words are spoken to each other. But couples, just remember, you can never pass this way again, meaning that you will not be able to repeat or go back and erase what you have said or what you have done. And yes.....LOVE IS the answer between you. Forgive each other. Talk things out. "Don't let the sun go down on your anger," as the saying goes. And yes, no one said it was always going to be easy. But LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. Take time to communicate. Take time to talk things out. Take time, take time, take time. But especially, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE And...along with being LOVING,........be sure to FORGIVE each other. Forgiving is very important. I hope this section is helpful to all of you. You know, sometimes we learn and share because of and through our own personal experiences. I just want to share this with you out of my caring for you and for my desire that you have a happy successful and enriched marriage and life--forever. So...please take a few moments to ponder what you read here. Put it into practice and you can't go wrong. ***This is the knowledge and experience of the author. This passage above is the epitomy of how we are to behave if we choose to practice LOVE------LOVE in a marriage, LOVE between families, LOVE between friends, - God's LOVE......... *If you wish to give any feedback about this section, or any other section of www.shopbestweddingsite.com, we would love to hear what you have to say. If you have any experiences that you would like to share, please write to: shopbestweddingsite@yahoo.com. If your material is appropriate and timely, we will consider publishing your story here. Some of the traditions come from generations past. Some wedding traditions come from special family practices. And....some traditions are even started by the new bride and groom to make their wedding day memorable and extra special and meaningful to them as the new bride and groom of the family, of the community, of the church, of the country. Let's define the word: Tradition- Traditions are ways of behaving that have been in a family down through the generations and with those implementations, - nothing changes, but everything stays the same as it has been in the past. Let's include here, some traditions found in a wedding: They might be: 1) The wedding ceremony itself 2) Kissing after the bride and groom have said their vows and promises to each other and after exchanging rings. 3) Breaking the glass after the ceremony has concluded 4) Jumping over a broom 5) Throwing the bridal bouquet 6) Throwing the bride's garter 7) Giving a toast to the bride and groom at the wedding reception 8) Putting the bride and groom in a chair above everyone's head at the reception 9) When the bride and groom do their first dance at the reception 10) When the bride does a dance with her dad 11) Doing a dance, in a circle, as a group at the wedding reception 12) Tying shoes to the back of the wedding vehicle. This symbolizes that the father of the bride is relinguishing his authority over his daughter, - the bride. 13) Exchanging rings which represent that the LOVE of the bride and groom has no beginning and that the LOVE of the bride and groom has no ending, but that their LOVE will go on forever., - the unending power of joy and LOVE 14) A Wedding Cake that symbolizes fertility 15) The honeymoon. Can you think of any other traditions that you would like to share with us here? If you would like to send your traditions and if you would like to give us feedback here, please feel free to write to shopbestweddingsite@yahoo.com. We will be sure to include your traditions and what you might wish to share here. A Wedding or a marriage is to be an affirmation of life, - which is to be embraced and is to be enjoyed. MARRIAGE AROUND THE WORLD
Let's talk about some wedding traditions and marriage from another part of the world. Let's choose the country of Sudan, in Africa: There is a bridegroom ceremony as the wedding begins. The groom is welcome to where the wedding will take place by/with a decoration called the "Umbul-Umbul." Do any of you know what an "Umbul-Umbul" is? Well, it is a type of a wedding announcement. Interestingly, it is the mother of the bride who welcomes the groom by giving him a garland, - a flower. She also gives him a "Keris," which is a hidden message encouraging him to not get discouraged while working to support his family. The next step to the Sudanese wedding ceremony is for a procession of ladies with candles to pray for the ceremony that is about to start. The bride and groom then sit together at the entrance-way of their future home, while under an umbrella with a veil covering both of their heads. The umbrella is to symbolize esteem and respect protecting them that moment, also the umbrella is to protect the bride and groom from rain (should it rain), - and from any bright sun. The bride and groom then bend forward, kissing the knees of their parents. This tradition is called "Sungken." In doing this, the bride and groom are asking for forgiveness and blessing and promising that they will continue to serve their parents. This wedding ritual is held in front of a gargoyl fountain. Do any of you know what a gargoyl fountain is? This continuous flowing of water from the fountain is to signify the bride and groom's wonderful priceless love, of that parental love for their children that they will hope to have someday. Then, in honor to and on behalf of the parents, a man and woman who were chosen before the ceremony sing a special song (Kidung) of blessing on the couple. This blessing is from the couple's parents, advising the bride and groom to treat each other well and to live in harmony. They then have an egg (nincak) breaking ceremony where the couple stand in front of their future home, facing each other. The groom stands outside the door and the bride stands inside the door. This ceremony is conducted by, - who might be called a --maid of honor. The maid of honor is to be considered an advisor to the couple throughout their marriage. Then, 7 broomsticks are burned and then thrown away. This is symbolic of throwing away bad habits that could endanger their married life. When the egg is broken, the groom then becomes "Master of his house." "His bride then cleans his foot with water, from a Kende-which is an earthen water jug which represents peace." The bride then breaks the Kende, jumps over a log and then enters the house, signifying willing obedience to her future husband. The bride is then fed a dish of turmeric stick rice with yellow spiced chicken which symbolizes the last time her parents will feed her. The groom stays outside with a group of singers in front of him. By way of the singers, the groom asks for permission to enter the house. The bride agrees when he agrees to confirm his faith. When he confirms this, the bride and groom are then given a barbequed chicken to pull apart at a sign from the declared Maid of Honor. The one who gets the larger piece of chicken will bring in the larger share of family fortune. This symbolizes working together to bring in the fortune. After the wedding ceremony, the bride and groom are showered wth flowers - symbolizing a fragrant future for the bride and groom. Then, Turmeric rice, a sawer, coins, and candy are thrown at the couple. Rice equals prosperity, yellow is for everlasting love. Coins are to remind the couple to share their fortunes with the less fortunate. Candy "Bestows sweetness and fragrance upon the marriage." Seven candles are lit that are to show the direction on the couple as to how they should live a happy marriage. A betulnut put near the couple is a reminder to them that the different customs between them should not spoil a harmonious marriage. I have really enjoyed hearing and learning about marriage in Sudan. Do any of you know anyone in Sudan that you could share with as to whether there might be any more traditions of a Sudanese marriage? If you wish to comment about this text, then please feel free to contact shopbestweddingsite@yahoo.com with your comments. WorldWeddingTraditions.com As we go on sharing here at Wedding Trivia, we will be including how a marriage and a wedding ceremony are done in more countries around the globe. We hope that you are enjoying Wedding Trivia.

Flowers, Flowers, Flowers, sometimes we take for granted when we want to have certain flowers, we go to a flower store, or have flowers delivered. Flowers are treated differently from seed to bloom, to delivery. Let's look at why the Ecuadorian Rose is one of the first sought after by Florists. The Ecuadorian Rose is world-renowned. This particular rose is generally the first chosen rose that florists will want. The Ecuadorian Rose will have a thick stem and then a huge bloom size that could even be the size of a baseball. Its vase life is longer than most others. The quality and purity of its rich color are unique. From seed or plant to travel to delivery, this rose is cared for greatly and is grown in a rich soil. During transporting from one place to another, or from one country to another, the roses are put in a temperature controlled container, with carbon dioxide monitors. This prevents hydration and insures freshness of the roses upon travel destination. The USA actuallys buys at least 70% of these types of roses from South America. It is recommended that you schedule a delivery date two days prior to your event. Roses are one of my favorite types of flowers. What about you? When I go into some certain store that sells flowers, I find myself going up to the section where all the roses are for sale in bunches. I find myself bending down to smell the roses. They have such a sweet fragrance, don't they? What's your favorite flower? If you wish to respond to this question, please feel free to write to us at: shopbestweddingsite@yahoo.com. We may even put your comments in this section. We look forward to hearing from you.
